How does SGTraDex work?
Think of the data highway like it were an actual highway
SGTraDex represents a new type of public digital infrastructure in the digital era. SGTraDex allows for data connections to be made to a wide range of data contributors and data users locally in Singapore and across the world.
Here are three main concepts to understand how SGTraDex works:
- Data Highway
Fast lanes for vehicle (data) flow. - Data Pitstops
Slip roads for vehicles (data) preparing to enter or exit the highway. - Service Marketplace
Traffic flow exchanging goods, services and ideas through the vehicles (data).
Data Highway
This is the main conduit within SGTraDex. The data highway allows for streamlined and rapid transfer of encrypted information between willing and consenting parties. It is a neutral and secure function that is accessible only to verified partied signed on to SGTraDex. The data highway does not store any data or record any history of data flow.
Pitstop
This is the critical layer between your business’s internal systems and SGTraDex’s data highway. Customised to your needs, the data highway serves to translate data from your business’s internal systems to a standard manner that the data highway can process efficiently. Your target recipient will have a customised pitstop as well, to recognise and accept the standardised data and translate it to their data format for processing. The pitstop also acts as a gate for incoming and outgoing data. At this point, your business may choose to record data trails for internal audit and governance purposes.
Service Marketplace
SGTraDex will be the digital infrastructure upon which the service marketplace will emerge. SGTraDex, a common data infrastructure, opens up new opportunities for data-driven collaborations. Businesses can increase their competitiveness through development of innovative solutions to improve productivity or offer new tools and services to users of SGTraDex.

To ensure legitimate and valuable interactions between contributors and consumers of data across systems, data governance, including the maintenance of control over first party data, needs to be strong.
Scalable and Interoperable
By being able to connect to local, regional and global data systems, SGTraDex is to become an end-to-end enabler of supply chain ecosystems in Singapore and globally.
Timely and Accessible
All parties across the supply chain, regardless of size, should be able to “plug-and-play” through their existing systems or through an app. Users should not be faced with a prohibitive cost to participate in SGTraDex.
